Scott Sylvia has been tattooing since 1989, when he started in Monterey, California. In 2004, he co-founded Black Heart Tattoo in San Francisco’s Mission District, where he continues to work today. He is known for versatility across styles, with particular strength in American Traditional work.
Beyond the chair, Sylvia builds handmade tattoo machines, which he sells through his personal website. His work has been recognized by regional media: SFist included him among the Bay Area’s best tattoo artists, and he was featured in a Last Sparrow Tattoo artist interview. He is also listed on Tattoofilter.
